How to check what applications are using mobile data
You will be presented with a list of all the applications and a toggle button next to them.
Any apps you wish not to use mobile data, can be turned off from this screen.
Note: The app will will continue to work when connected to Wi-Fi.
- Open the Settings app
- Select Mobile
- Scroll down to view which apps are able to use Mobile Data.
Select the toggle to turn off apps you don't require to use Mobile Data
Low Data Mode
Turning on Low Data Mode helps reduce Mobile Data usage by pausing automatic updates, background tasks and photo syncing.
- Open the Settings app
- Select Mobile
- Select Mobile Data Options
- Select the Low Data Mode toggle to turn on
Wi-Fi Assist
With iOS 9 and later, you can use Wi-Fi Assist to automatically switch to mobile data when you have poor a Wi-Fi connection and vice versa.
Wi-Fi Assist is on by default. If you don't want your iOS device to stay connected to the Internet when you have a poor Wi-Fi connection, you can disable Wi-Fi Assist.
- Open the Settings app
- Select Mobile
- Select Wi-Fi Assist toggle to turn on
Automatic Downloads
The Automatic Downloads option can sometimes use a lot of your mobile data if left as activated.
This means you won’t be able to download a new application or automatically update them when on mobile data. The application downloads or updates will only occur while connected to a Wi-Fi network.
- Open the Settings app
- Select App Store
- Select the Automatic Downloads toggle to turn off
Note: When the toggle is grey it will be turned off
Enable Low Quality Image Mode in iMessage
Instead of sending an image in high resolution you can automatically send it as a compressed version saving your mobile data as a result.
Go to Settings > scroll down and tap on Messages > then tap on the toggle next to Low Quality Image Mode.
- Open the Settings app
- Select Messages
- Select Low Quality Image Mode toggle to turn on
Disable Loading Remote Images in Mail
This controls whether or not images embedded in an email message will automatically display when you open/view the email message.
Go to Settings > then scroll down and tap on Mail > scroll down to the Messages section and tap on toggle next to Load Remote Images.
- Open the Settings app
- Select Mail
- Select Load Remote Images toggle to turn off
Note: When the toggle is grey it will be turned off
